Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council

Our mission is to engage young Jamaicans around the world and empower them to invest in the sustainable development of Jamaica.

The Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council (GJDYC) is a youth-led initiative with the aim of increasing the affinity and connection of young people in the Jamaican Diaspora. It is grounded in the recognition that greater linkages should be forged and mechanisms established to connect Diaspora youth with Jamaica; specifically, the engagement of the second, third and fourth generations.

Tanesha is the former and first Chairperson of the GJDYC, which has membership in 18 countries with dominant diaspora regions in Canada, United Kingdom and United States of America.

The Inaugural GJDYC Online Youth Summit ‘Leading Beyond Covid-19: Industries, Impact and Innovations’ was successfully staged on 15-20 June 2020 under Tanesha's leadership. The Summit featured 14 industries, 11 panel discussions and 45 speakers, from around the world. Special remarks were made by Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade; Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith on Diaspora Day, while Minister of State Alando Terrelonge was featured on 18 June. The Summit Report includes the actionable next steps, and policy and advocacy initiatives.
